Brandon, Tracey, and Bondeye - Driving through the Bronx in NY in the RV was the most stressful drive of my life. The 4 hours and 30 minutes driving from Dennis, MA to Jersey City NJ, we passed Sandwich (there is actually a city named Sandwich, MA), and onto Providence RI, and though Connecticut.I actually had to get off of the freeway once just before going under a bridge that we weren't going to make the clearance height on. Glad I saw the clearance height sign! Typically when we arrive at our next RV spot, we check in and usually go find a cool restaurant to eat. Once we got to Jersey City, we just wanted to rest a little. We could see the Statue of Liberty from our RV window, and the sky was twinkling with stars and was a cool 65 degrees at about 6pm in the evening. Our neighbor, Brandon was the coolest guy ever. I had a man crush on him. They were a family of 3. The Dad, Brandon was from Australia, and had the whole "Good' Aye Mate" accent, and greeted each of us that way with a high 5. His family was also a full time family. Brandon worked for a software company based out of Seattle. When we arrived at the RV site Brandon was playing "jazz restaurant style music" from his RV outside speakers. He also had rope lights that mad a really cool ambiance. We shared a beer together talking about NYC and the freedom of the full time RV life. Bondeye was his 7 year old kid who really didn't have anyone to play with because he was an only child was excited to see our kids. So Collin and the rest of our kids took to playing with him pretty well, either football or riding bikes. So funny, one day Brandon emerged from his RV wearing a suit and tie carrying a briefcase. He was off to a meeting in NYC. His boss flew in from Seattle and were meeting a few other team members in the city. When you work remote, you don't dress the part unless you absolutely have to. :)
Killians Tavern, Spearfish, SD - . We walked in after driving from Coeur d'Alene, ID on our way to Rapid City SD. it was past dusk and was dark outside. We walked in and were greeted with with loud live folk singer with an acoustic guitar. The place was loud and was hopping with people. Sandy had second thoughts, but I am always up for an adventure and a fun story to tell. Our waitress had the northern "you know" accent and was a place had a lot of bikes hanging from their ceiling...The food was delish!!! We always like to share our story with the server, and she said that Spearfish, SD is a cool hip place, similar to San Luis Obispo, CA. It has a younger crowd going to college with tons of hiking trails. Since we were passing through onto Rapid City, we missed this areas trails and would love to come back to stay here a good while.
I drove through the whole state of Wisconsin, but I couldn't tell you what it was like. I was super bummed because we drove through the entire state of Wisconsin and it was dark.I kept thinking that we would make our destination at around sunset. I guess I miscalculated the travel time because I thought that our GPS hadn't picked up on the time zone changes yet, I guess I forgot that GPS stood for "Global Positioning System"... Sheesh!! Because we had 3 more hours to go before we hit Madison, WI, Sandy was more than a little annoyed, and she let me know with her voice every now and then during the next 3 hours... We arrived in Madison WI super late and had dinner at the Chilli's that we were lucky to have been open. We went fast asleep that night :)
Like it Dad. :)
